Scribner’s Catskills Lodge

Sometimes you just need to escape the city and get your dose of fresh air, and if you are from New York City or the surrounding boroughs, Scribner’s Catskills Lodge is the perfect weekend retreat. Historically, the Catskills has been one of the most popular upstate destinations for its skiing and beautiful hiking trails and Scribner’s Catskill Lodge is located in the heart of it all.

Scribner’s is a beautiful modern lodge with a very rich history that goes back over 50 years. Brooklyn based design firm, Studio Tack, recently revamped the 1966 lodge into a Design Hotel. The property is equipped with several amenities including a swimming pool, yoga studio, pool table, barrel sauna, outdoor fireplace, and an onsite restaurant.

The Library is the ideal place to enjoy a book or board game while relaxing next to the central fireplace with a good glass of wine. Looking for adventure? Catskill Forest Preserve is at your doorstep, with its rich wildlife, epic waterfalls, and beautiful hiking trails. In the winter it is a popular destination to stay while skiing at Hunter Mountain and Belleayre Mountain.

During your stay, enjoying some high-quality food from chef Alex Napolitano is an absolute must. Prospect is the on-property restaurant with 270 degrees views of the surrounding mountains. The restaurant serves breakfast seven days a week, brunch on the weekends and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. Alex uses high quality and locally resourced ingredients inspired by Italian cuisine to shape his menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes for breakfast and highly recommend the cheese plate and hand-cut tagliatelle with white lamb ragu for dinner.

As for recommendations on where to eat in the area, we suggest trying Sal’s Pizza, Mama’s Boy Burger and Last Chance Tavern. If you are up for a bit of a drive, check out Phoenicia Diner for a classic American breakfast.

We had an amazing stay at Scribner’s and the property was stunning with the snow-covered mountains. If you are looking for a place to come to rest this should be your go to. We can’t wait to come back next summer!
